Workshop Equipment Testing & Gas Purity Verification

Every regulator, cylinder valve, and breathing air batch at Budi Dive undergoes verifiable pressure sweep calibration, ultrasonic degreasing, and emergency response readiness in Tampa, Florida.

The Protocol: Verifiable Standards Over Marketing Claims

When a diver inhales at 30 meters depth in the Gulf of Mexico, faith in equipment is replaced by the physical tolerance of high-pressure seating surfaces and the purity of compressed breathing gas. At Budi Dive, safety is a set of repeatable workshop measurements logged in black ink.

We adhere strictly to Compressed Gas Association (CGA) Grade E breathing air benchmarks, NAUI technical training guidelines, and manufacturer torque specifications. We do not skip quarterly gas lab assays, and we do not issue rental life-support gear without fresh intermediate pressure sweeps.

Facility Infrastructure & Filtration Hardware

Our Tampa workshop at 803 North Tampa Street operates heavy industrial equipment designed for clean breathing gas generation and sterile oxygen cleaning.

High-pressure multi-stage breathing air compressor and air filtration system inside Budi Dive facility Grade E Filtration

Electric Compressor & Molecular Sieve Filtration

Multi-stage high-pressure electric compressor unit equipped with automatic condensate dumps, dual moisture separators, and oversized molecular sieve and activated carbon filtration towers. Produces Grade E breathing air with carbon monoxide levels strictly below 2 PPM and moisture content below -50°F dew point.

The 4-Stage Equipment Inspection Workflow

Every life-support regulator and cylinder follows this mandatory sequence.

Stage 1 • Visual & Hydrostatic Inspection

Cylinder Shell & Thread Integrity

Cylinders receive an internal 360-degree borescope inspection examining neck threads for sustained load cracking (SLC) or galvanic corrosion. Hydrostatic expansion tests are performed strictly every 5 years with annual visual inspection stickers issued.

Hydro Interval 5 YEARS
Visual (VIP) ANNUAL
Thread Check OPTICAL VIP
Stage 2 • Intermediate Pressure Lockup Sweep

First Stage IP Bench Sweep

First stage regulators mount to our intermediate pressure test gauge at 200 bar inlet pressure. We monitor lockup stability for 5 continuous minutes. If the IP creeps upward past 10.0 bar, the high-pressure seat is scrapped and replaced.

  • Lockup must occur instantaneously between 9.0 and 10.0 bar.
  • Zero creep allowed under 5 minutes of static pressurization.
  • Environmental seal chamber checked for silicone fluid level.
Stage 3 • Magnehelic Cracking Effort Calibration

Second Stage Inhalation Tuning

Second stages connect to our digital Magnehelic flow bench. We adjust the poppet spring tension so cracking effort registers between 1.1 and 1.3 inches of water column, eliminating free-flow tendency while ensuring effortless gas delivery.

Cracking effort calibration target: 1.1 – 1.3 in H2O
Stage 4 • Wet Chamber Submersion Test

Bubble Leak Elimination

The entire assembled life-support kit (first stage, second stage, octopus, SPG, and inflator hose) undergoes 15 minutes of water immersion under full cylinder pressure. Zero micro-bubbles from swivel spools or hose crimps are permitted.

Addressing Diver Objections & Inspection Realities

A scuba cylinder pressurized to 3000 PSI stores over 1.3 million foot-pounds of kinetic energy. Internal neck cracking or rust pits can cause violent catastrophic vessel failure during fill. We fill cylinders only with current hydrostatic test stamps and visual inspection decals.

Our air filter media is changed strictly every 50 running hours, far ahead of manufacturer limits. In addition, quarterly gas samples are drawn into vacuum flasks and sent to an accredited third-party laboratory for gas chromatography testing. Results are posted on our shop wall.

If sustained Gulf winds exceed 15 knots or seas exceed 3 to 4 feet, boat charters are called off by the captain. We never gamble with diver safety at the boat ladder. Cancelled weather charters are rescheduled or credited without deduction.
