Prerequisites & Candidate Standards
- Minimum Age: 12 years old for Junior Open Water; 15 years old for full NAUI Open Water Diver.
- Watermanship Assessment: 200-metre continuous swim without fins or flotation, and 10-minute water tread.
- Medical Clearance: Complete standard RSTC diver medical questionnaire. Physician sign-off required if any pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular contraindications exist.
- Academic Mastery: Complete NAUI eLearning modules and pass written exam with at least 80% before ocean entry.

Logbook Endorsement & NAUI Card Issuance
The instructor audits your logged bottom times, gas consumption profiles, and skill sign-offs. Your official NAUI Open Water Diver c-card is issued digitally and physically, recognized by all dive centres worldwide.
Common Open Water Questions Answered
Every diver must own personal snorkeling gear fitted directly to their anatomy: a low-volume silicone mask, an ergonomic snorkel, open-heel dive fins, and neoprene booties. We stock and fit these in our Tampa shop. Heavy equipment (cylinder, balanced regulator, BCD, computer, and exposure suit) can be rented for the course duration or purchased through our consultation desk.
Typically two full weekends. Academic modules are completed at home via self-paced eLearning. Saturday and Sunday of weekend one are dedicated to equipment assembly and confined pool skills. Weekend two comprises two ocean/spring checkout dives on Saturday and two on Sunday.
We do not pass divers based on time limits; we certify based on demonstrated mastery. Because our roster is private or small (1 to 4 candidates), your instructor provides remediation pool time until you are fully confident. There is no shame in requiring an additional pool session before heading to the ocean.
