Continuous webbing backplates lock cylinder weight over your center of gravity.
Proper buoyancy control starts with harness geometry, not excessive lead weights. We configure backplate-and-wing rigs and heavy-duty jacket BCDs tested for horizontal trim in Florida waters.
Buoyancy Engineering on the Workshop Line
We do not hand you a random size BCD over the counter. Each harness is fitted to diver torso length and verified for bladder integrity under positive pressure.
Modular Backplate & Wing Configuration
Continuous Webbing Harness • 30lb Donut Wing • Crotch StrapThe technical backplate system utilizes a single continuous piece of 2-inch stiff resin-impregnated nylon webbing. Anodized 6mm aluminium backplates provide structural rigidity while remaining light enough for coastal travel. The circular donut wing distributes air evenly around the cylinder rather than trapping it on one side during rolls.
Reinforced Rental Jacket BCD Fleet
1000-Denier Cordura • Integrated Weight Release • Dual Dump ValvesFor open water students and divers who prefer standard front-adjustable vests, we maintain a fleet of rugged 1000-denier Cordura jacket BCDs. Dual mechanical ditchable weight pockets hold up to 20 lbs of lead, eliminating hard lead weight belts from your waist.
Lift Capacity Comparison & Florida Saltwater Buoyancy
Calculated Lift • Thermal suit CompensationA 30 lb wing is matched to single aluminium 80 or high-pressure steel 100 cylinders in warm saltwater. Divers wearing 5mm neoprene suits require sufficient positive lift at the surface to maintain comfortable oral airway clearance in choppy Gulf surface conditions.
Bladder Leak Testing & Overpressure Valve Verification
24-Hour Pressure Immersion • OPV Spring InspectionEvery BCD leaving our rental bay undergoes a 24-hour full-inflation test. If a bladder drops pressure overnight or an elbow dump valve seeps micro-bubbles under immersion, the inner polyurethane bladder is replaced immediately before re-entering rotation.
- Lower right pull dump: Rapid gas evacuation during inverted horizontal descents.
- Power inflator valve: K-style piston button tested for zero sticky creep.
- Tank cam band: Stainless friction buckle with rubber non-slip cylinder grip pad.
Why We Adjust Every Harness in Person
A loose harness forces the cylinder to roll against your spine, causing constant arm-flailing and wasted gas consumption. When you arrive at our 803 North Tampa Street shop, our instructor has you put on the harness with your exposure suit on to tighten the waist belt, adjust the crotch strap, and position the chest D-rings exactly at collarbone height.
We do not ship rental BCDs by courier without personal verification. Buoyancy equipment is life support, and proper harness geometry ensures you stay flat and relaxed in the water.
Includes bladder, harness, power inflator hose, and cam bands. Rental basis is $30 per day.
